Francis Jens Spitta

You might have seen his work in the collections of Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs and many others. Francis Jens Spitta has been designing prints for the fashion and interiors communities for the last two decades. And now, he’s designing for his own eponymous collection FJS. It’s about time!

Born in Sydney, Australia, at the ripe old age of 9 months he immigrated to America with his family and settled in sunny Los Angeles. Sitting at his mother’s side while she sewed her own clothes, as early as three years old, young Francis knew he loved design. Following his passion, he pursued a BFA in fashion design from Otis College of Art and Design where he discovered he had a talent for print design. It wasn’t long before his work made its way onto the runways and into the showrooms of American and European designers. And while the success was satisfying, Francis always dreamed of having his own home collection.

In 2009, he jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire and launched FJS. While his goal is to build a collection that covers every aspect of the home, for now, it’s all about pillows. For his inaugural collection, the concept was simple: produce a collection of pillows that had a statement print on both sides. So in essence, the customer would be getting two pillows for the price of one. The inspiration? His life. “I've taken the iconic images of my life and I've twisted them around a bit.”

Each cushion is lovingly hand sewn and hand printed in Los Angeles on a fabrication that feels like a cross between a silk twill and a cool, crisp, cotton shirt. And… everything is machine washable!

Cleaning your FJS Pillow could not be easier. Simply un-zip and remove the insert from your FJS Pillow pillowcase, zip it back up, and throw the pillowcase in the washing machine. Set the machine on the gentle cycle and wash in cold water. Then throw it in the dryer on a low heat setting and you are good to go! Your FJS Pillow will come out looking good as new. For cleaning the insert, simply follow the instructions on the label.
